Aegir and Ran were feared by sailors and it was believed that prisoners were often thrown overboard as sacrifices in attempts to please the harsh god. Aegir and Ran would steal treasure from sailors, sink ships and drag people to the dark ocean depths to murder them. Ran and Aegir had nine daughters together.

Aegir is able to travel to any ocean and command most of them, however he likes to live in cold waters the best. He lives in a grand hall underwater and likes to host parties with the other gods and goddesses.
