Sif was the goddess of wheat, fertility and family. She was often overshadowed by her husband, Thor. Sif is associated with wheat because of her long, perfectly golden hair. She would travel to different farms and protect the crops. Sif combed her hair with a jewel encrusted comb and would then lay it out in the sun to dry. To upset Thor, one day Loki chopped all of Sif's hair off. Sif then hid from Thor, too ashamed of her new hair cut. Loki was then found by the other gods and forced to admit to his crime. He then travelled to the middle of the Earth to beg the dwarves to make a wig as perfect as Sif's hair. Sif was very happy with her new hair and returned to protecting the crops. Sif was associated with summer, passion and the Sun. It was said that she could change the seasons. Sif was very family oriented.
