tyr

Tyr was a brave, heroic Norse god that was associated with justice and lawfulness. Tyr was an idol for many people, as he inspired them to be brave. It was speculated that Tyr was originally the leader of the Aesir clan of gods. Tyr assisted in the capturing of Fenrir the fierce wolf. When Fenrir only agreed to allow himself to be captured if one of the gods showed a display of good faith Tyr stepped forward and placed his hand in Fenrir's mouth to show bravery. Fenrir then continued to try and break free; however, he was unsuccessful and out of rage , he bit Tyr's hand off. When it was time for the battle of Ragnarok, a war against good and evil, Tyr battled the ferocious Gram, a beast from the underworld. Even with one hand, Tyr killed the ruthless Gram. It is believed that Fenrir and Gram are the same figure and that Fenrir escaped and planned to kill Tyr. Tyr was later associated with the Romans and Tuesday

(Tysdagr) was named after him.
